Zone of Inhibition Tests
Test Purpose
The purpose of this microbiology
lab test is to evaluate the
basic antibacterial activity of
an agent against selected
bacteria by determining the zone
of inhibition. This test is
typically used for development
purposes.
Test Summary
An agar plate is inoculated with
a lawn of a bacterial culture
suspension. The test material is
placed in contact with the
inoculated surface. Following
incubation, the agar surface is
examined for inhibition of test
organism growth. Appropriate
purity and sterility controls
are performed.
