Virucidal Pre-Saturated
Towelette Tests
Test Purpose
The purpose of this test is to
evaluate the virucidal efficacy
of a client's pre-saturated
towelette product against a
specific virus (including
surrogate viruses) according to
test criteria and methods
approved by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency
for registration of a
pre-saturated towelette product
as a virucide for hard,
non-porous surfaces. The ASTM
Pre-Saturated Towelette
microbiology lab test must be
conducted prior to running the
virucidal pre-saturated
towelette test.
Test Summary
A film of virus, dried on a
glass surface, is wiped with the
test substance and held for a
specified exposure time.
Following exposure, the
virucidal and cytotoxic
activities are removed from the
virus-test substance mixture,
and the mixture is assayed for
viral infectivity by an accepted
assay method. Appropriate virus,
test substance cytotoxicity, and
neutralization controls are run
concurrently.
