Simulated Use Testing of
Disinfectants on Medical Devices
Test Purpose
This microbiology lab test is
designed to evaluate the
efficacy of the client's product
and recommended disinfection
practices using appropriate
medical devices, (typically
endoscopes), which are
inoculated with target test
organisms in the lab to
represent worst case organism
loads expected on the used
device.
Test Summary
The inoculated devices are
allowed to dry and are subjected
to cleaning and disinfection
procedures using either the
client’s recommended
instructions or following the
device manufacturer’s
recommended cleaning and
disinfection instructions.
Following the reprocessing
(cleaning and disinfection)
procedures, the devices are
quantitatively recovered for
survivors. Appropriate controls
to verify neutralization,
recovery limits and device
populations are performed.
