EPA Quantitative Suspension
Method for Tuberculocides
Test Purpose
This microbiology lab test is
designed to determine the
tuberculocidal effectiveness of
a client's gluteraldehyde
disinfectant product using
Mycobacterium bovis (BCG),
an acceptable surrogate for
Mycobacterium tuberculosis,
following the Environmental
Protection Agency and other
regulatory agency guidelines for
the Quantitative Tuberculocidal
Procedure, otherwise referred to
as, the Ascenzi method.
Test Summary
A suspension of the test
organism is exposed to the test
substance for a specified
contact time. After exposure, an
aliquot of the suspension is
transferred to vessels
containing neutralizing
subculture medium and assayed
quantitatively for survivors.
Appropriate sterility, organism
population, and neutralization
controls are performed.
