ASTM E 2180
Activity of Incorporated
Antimicrobials Agents in
Polymeric or Hydrophobic
Materials
Test Purpose
The purpose of this microbiology
lab test is to produce data that
provides basic information on
the antimicrobial effectiveness
of agents incorporated into or
bound onto hydrophobic or
polymeric surfaces. This method
may also be adapted testing
other materials.
Test Summary
A suspension of test organism in
an agar slurry is added to the
surface of each Sponsor provided
test material. The test organism
is exposed to the test material
for each specified exposure
time. After exposure, the
material is neutralized and
assayed quantitatively for
survivors. Appropriate culture
purity, sterility, microorganism
population and neutralization
controls are performed.
