AOAC Sporicidal Activity Test
Test Purpose
The purpose of this microbiology
lab test is to determine the
sporicidal activity of a
germicide against specified
spore-forming bacteria using the
AOAC Sporicidal Activity Method.
This test is used to
substantiate sporicidal and
sterilant claims to comply with
the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency and other
regulatory agency requirements.
Test Summary
A suspension of bacterial spores
dried on specified carriers
(porcelain penicylinders and
silk or Dacron sutures) is
exposed to the test substance
for a specified contact time.
After exposure, the carriers are
transferred to vessels
containing neutralizing
subculture media and assayed for
survivors. Appropriate HCl,
viability, carrier quantitation
and neutralization controls are
performed.
