AOAC Disinfectant (Water) for

Test Purpose
The purpose of this microbiology
lab test is to determine the
efficacy of a client's product
following the AOAC Disinfectant
(Water) for Swimming Pools
Method to comply with the U.S.
Environmental Protection
Agency’s requirements.
Test Summary
A suspension of bacterial cells
is exposed to the test substance
and control NaOCl solutions of
known concentrations for
specified contact times.
Following exposure, an aliquot
of the exposed suspension is
transferred to tubes containing
neutralizing subculture media,
serially diluted, and plated on
appropriate agar. In addition,
an aliquot of the neutralizer
will be subcultured into
appropriate broth medium. The
subculture tubes and plates are
then incubated and assayed
qualitatively and quantitatively
for survivors. Appropriate
viability and neutralization
controls are performed.
